What is the UV index and how is it measured?
The UV index is an international standard that measures the strength of ultraviolet radiation from the sun. The UV index scale runs from 0 (low) to 11+ (extreme). In the UK the Met Office calculates the index using a combination of satellite data, ozone levels, cloud cover, and surface reflectivity.
