What is Cancun’s weather pattern throughout the year?

Average highs in Cancun range from 28°C in January to 34°C in August, while overnight lows hover between 19°C and 25°C. The region has two main seasons: a dry season (roughly November to April) and a wet season (May to October). Sea temperatures stay warm enough for swimming year-round, dropping to a still‑pleasant 26°C in winter and rising to 29°C in summer. Rainfall is heavily concentrated between June and October, with September and October typically seeing the highest totals — over 200mm per month.

Cancun in October and November – the transitional months

Cancun in October is still deep in the wet season, with frequent but often brief tropical downpours and average highs of 31°C. Humidity is high, but sea temperatures remain around 28°C. By Cancun in November, rainfall starts to drop sharply — from around 200mm in October to roughly 100mm — and humidity falls as the dry season begins. Daytime highs are a very comfortable 30°C, making November a popular shoulder month for travellers who want good weather without peak prices.

December to February – the peak winter season

These three months are Cancun’s most comfortable and busiest period. Cancun weather January sees average highs of 28°C and lows of 20°C, with sea temperatures around 26°C — still very swimmable. Cancun weather February is similarly pleasant, with slightly less rain (about 45mm) and plenty of sunshine. Spring and early summer: April and beyond

Cancun April marks the very end of the dry season. Temperatures rise to 31°C, sea temperatures reach 27°C, and rainfall is still low (around 40mm). It’s an excellent month before the humidity and showers build up. By Cancun weather September, the wet season is at its peak: average highs of 33°C, very high humidity, and around 230mm of rain — often in short, heavy bursts. What to pack for Cancun

Light cotton clothing, swimwear, a sun hat and plenty of high‑factor sunscreen are essential year‑round. In the wet season (May‑Oct) add a compact waterproof jacket or umbrella. For winter evenings (Dec‑Feb) a light jumper or cardigan is useful if you’re dining outdoors after sunset. Reef‑friendly sunscreen is recommended if you plan to snorkel; the sea temperature is always warm enough for a dip.
